Description

The project involves the new construction of a high school for 850 students of grades 9 through 12. The two-story building complex is located in the eastern area of the Kaiserslautern-Vogelweh military installation and is administered by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) of the United States Department of Defense.

The design meets the criteria for a 21st century educational facility, as outlined in guidelines developed by DODEA. One of the major advances is the shift from using individual classrooms to grouping several differently sized areas together and eliminating the traditional division of educational and common spaces, thereby making every area within a 21st century school an opportunity to learn.

For this project, the Dorsch International Wiesbaden team around Reinhold Weis in collaboration with SchenkelShultz Architecture Orlando have been awarded with the

"Citation of Excellence Award 2013"

by the U.S. magazine "Learning by Design" which is issued by the American Association of Architects.
